Hey guys, my name is Bruno and I had the chance to spend five awesome, unforgettable months in Banff, AB, Canada. My host family lived in downtown Banff which was great. I attended the local Community High School with only 350 students. It is a pretty small school and it was easy to get to know a lot of people very soon. Part of my daily school subjects were Math, Construction, Commtech, PE and English. During the winter, here till mid of May, I often went skiing and with 3 resorts in a 45 minutes range I had a lot of choices. I was part of the school rugby team and we were able to get second in the Provincial Final. In the Banff National Park you will see a lot of wildlife like bears, deer, elk and many more and, of course, the beautiful scenery of the Rocky Mountains. I had an awesome time here in Canada and I’m sure this experience will influence the rest of my life. Saying goodbye is hard and sad, especially if you found a lot of good friends and a second family. I’m glad that I decided to spend this semester here in Canada and I would always do it again. Thank you host family. Thank you Canada.

Thank you, Canada !

Hey there! My name is Manuel and I had 5 fantastic months in North Vancouver, Canada. My host family lived in the lovely neighborhood of “Deep Cove” - 5 minutes from a doughnutshop - and frequent sea buses brought me to the lively downtown of Vancouver within an hour.

I had very interesting but also very easy subjects in school - for example Drama, Photography and English. After school I could participate in some extracurricular courses like choir or theatre company, a great way to make new friends.

During the weekends and holidays I visited all the great museums of Vancouver, e. g. the Public Art Gallery, the National Site about a local cannery and Vancouver's famous aquarium. Almost every weekend I was also able to visit a play or a concert. There is lots of interesting art happening in Vancouver! My semester abroad gave me more self-confidence and clearer direction for my future. I would definitely recommend doing it for everyone.

Hi folks, I am Nicole and I spent wonderful and unforgettable 5 months in Kamloops, BC, Canada. My big journey started on 1st September and after a 10hrs flight from Frankfurt to Vancouver and a short connection flight to Kamloops I was glad that my host family picked me up at the airport and gave me a hearty welcome. From the very beginning I had a great relation with my host family. I attended the Sa-Hali Secondary School and made some great friendships with awesome people, with who I am still in contact. Being a manager of the volleyball senior girls’ team helped me a lot to find true friends. And also having subjects like PE or Textiles made my day always fun. My host family took me to some great places. We visited Banff in the Rocky Mountains, Vancouver, went to a pumpkin farm and hockey games, and we skied almost every weekend in the winter! I was impressed by the breathtaking landscape and shocked when I saw my first bear in the wilderness just goofing around in the forest!! And I even participated in the Canadian tradition called the “Polar Bear Dip”, where you are supposed to run into ice cold water (for example a river) on the 1st of January to get luck for the rest of the year! Crazy Canadians! EY!

I gained such great experiences, which I will never forget in my life! Of course saying goodbye was hard and sad but I’m so happy to know that I have a second family now! Deciding to do this stay abroad was the best thing I could have ever done!
I can really recommend the MAP program to do it. Believe me it’s worth it !!

Hi folks, I’m Nico from Munich and I spent an awesome year in Nelson, BC. Nelson is a small town in the middle of the Rocky Mountains. In school the teachers and the students have been so friendly and so it has been really easy to integrate and find friends. In the first semester I had the following courses: ESL, Chem 11, English 11 and Principles of Math 11; in the second semester I had Chem 12, English 11, Foods and Music Composition. The teachers by the way will always help you, if you may have a problem. I would recommend everybody to choose “funny” courses such as Foods, Drama, Woodwork etc. These courses have been extremely interesting and have enabled me to find friends really easily. Further I took part in the school’s cross country running team in fall. Fortunately our team made it to provincials (a competition for the best runners) in Victoria, BC. The Whitewater ski resort, which is only 20 minutes away, is better than anything else. I have never skied so much powder before. In spring I often was mountain biking and climbing. I’m still in close contact with my Canadian friends and we are often skyping. In the end it was time to say goodbye which was really hard for me.
I had the best time of my life and I would definitely go there again. I would have liked to stay even longer than just for one school year.

Nico

Ella

Hey guys, I’m Paulina and I spent a wonderful semester in a small town called Fernie, BC, which lies deep in the heart of the Canadian Rockies. My host family made me feel as if I was a part of the family right away. I immediately felt comfortable and just like home in my new environment. I loved spending time with my six-year-old host sister or going on various trips with all of them. I met awesome people at school and made so many friends during my classes. I was in English class, law, photography, but my favorite subject was metal art. One of my highlights was definitely skiing in winter and experiencing the wonder of Canadian powder snow; believe me it might be the best in the world. Furthermore, I went curling with my school and watched the Christmas Carol play in Calgary. Cheering for my classmates at the local hockey games was another great thing to do on the weekends. I was able to experience the beauty of Banff and famous Lake Louise and stepped on the first glacier of my life in Glacier National Park.

I am so thankful that MAP made all of this possible and I totally recommend this experience to anyone who desires to see the world, meet new people and do something extraordinary because I swear you will never forget this time. I really call Fernie my second home with all these great people and friends and especially my host family on the other half of the globe.

Hi guys, I am Janina and I spent the best 10 months of my life in a little town called Qualicum Beach on Vancouver Island. I was really excited and happy and couldn‘t believe that I would stay there for such a long time. After about two weeks I got used to everything and my time was wonderful! First I thought that it was hard to make Canadian friends but you just have to talk to them - don‘t be shy! And it makes it a lot easier if you join any after school activities. My host family was awesome. I had two host sisters aged 16 and 18 who really helped me with every-thing. I loved my school, the Kwalikum Secondary School. You could choose really interesting courses and my teachers were wonderful. We went on some unforgettable trips with the Internationals, for example to Whistler, Banff, Seattle, Vancouver and surfing in Tofino, a little town on the west coast of Vancouver Island. I will never forget my time in Canada and all my friends from all over the world. My year was awesome and I would recommend everybody to go abroad - you won‘t regret it

Hey Guys, I´m Lukas and I spent an awesome year on Salt Spring Island, BC, an island which is close to Vancouver Island. It really was the best time of my life and I am so grateful for all the great memories. All that nervousness was gone when my host family picked me up from the airport. We got along very well right from the beginning. At school everybody was really nice. I made a lot of friends in the senior boys soccer team. When we had home-games, the whole school came to cheer us and we even had cheerleaders. We had a lot of soccer tournaments all over British Columbia. During those trips I got to see a lot of cool places and spectacular landscapes. During my second semester I started rowing in the school rowing team. I enjoyed it so much, that I kept rowing after I came back to Germany. I didn´t just improve my English, I now have a second home and family in Canada. I´m still in touch with my Canadian friends and a lot of them are planning to visit me. To spend some time in a foreign country is the best thing you can do and you´ll gain so many experiences, that you´ll never forget.

My stay in Canada - wonderful and amazing memories
Hi, I’m Luisa and I spent 4 exciting months in Winnipeg, Manitoba. I arrived there in September with excitement and with a huge openness for the new people, the country and culture. My host family „The Mcleods” picked me up. They consist of my two host sisters who were 17 and 19, my little brother age 11 and my host parents Enna and Bryan. My family made my stay in Canada, they supported me and I got along really well with all of them. I attended the Vincent Massey Collegiate in grade 11. It’s a great high school with lots of students. The school offered many interesting and highly unusual classes. I took among others dance and drama class every day and it was so much fun. Vincent Massey Collegiate is a bilingual school, which means they have a program called „French immersion’’ for students who are francophone and like to have some or even all their classes in French. This was the big advantage of this school and I didn’t just improve my English but my French, too. To be independent, to get to know new people and establish new relationships, all this let me grow so much, and in the end I wished I wouldn’t have to leave.

I can definitely say that I would recommend it to every one of you, who is reading this, to go to a foreign country.

Luisa

Hey Guys, I'm Marie and I spent 10 months in Nova Scotia. There I lived in a small town on the Cape Breton Island. The moment I met my host family at the airport, all the nervousness was gone and I knew that I would have a wonderful time with them. My host family consists of my two host parents, their two little children and my international sister from Belgium. I had a really good relationship to all of them, especially to my Belgian sister, and it made me happy when my host dad said that it feels like I've always lived with them.

I did a lot of activities with my host family and with the international student group. In school everyone was really nice and I can only advise you to talk to people, then I'm sure you will make great friends. I tried some new classes like Drama, Yoga and Shopclass (working with wood), which all were a lot of fun! I can't tell you how glad I am that I decided to go on an exchange and I can only recommend you to do the same.

I’m Jonas and I spent the best five months of my life in Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada. That’s a small town on Cape Breton Island. I’m so happy that I had the experience to live there. I missed my family and my friends from Germany for only one week. My host family, consisting of my host parents, their 17 year old son and a 16 year old international student from Turkey, helped me feel comfortable. After a few days I had a lot of Canadian friends and the international group at my school was awesome, too. I went to the movies or other locations with my family but I also met my friends to go out with them. I visited many hockey and basketball games and went to the gym or ice skating. School there is not the same as in Germany. I had math, oceans, English and drama and all of them I liked a lot. During my vacation in March I went to Montréal and Ottawa with the Nova Scotia International Student Program. We went with a group of 50 students from all over the world. I thought the best activity was dog sledding. I recommend anyone to take advantage of these trips. It was a great time and I’ll never forget all the experiences and all the awesome people I met in Canada. I’m so glad that I decided to go on an exchange and recommend anybody to do the same!
